Austrians and Irishmen first began the work of the Jesuits in Australia in the mid 1850s.  These Jesuits, who first arrived in Adelaide and Melbourne, paved the way for more than 500 Jesuits who have subsequently worked in Australia, New Zealand and in the Australian Mission in India.  Trylu, the missionary character of the Society of Jesus lives on.
